Sparklehorse, Cap Classique, Ken Forrester, Stellenbosch, 2023

One of the most beloved characters in the South African wine world, Ken Forrester’s wines follow suit. A bottle of his infamous FMC never stays in our cellar for very long. 

This is his Cap Classique; a traditional method sparkling for fans of crémant de Loire and fresh, bright Blanc de Blancs.

Sparklehorse is 100% chenin blanc from cooler sites in Stellenbosch, spending 18 months on the lees. An exceptional new world sparkling that works just as well as an aperitif as it does next to a plate of seafood or a smash burger.

In 2008, Adi Badenhorst, along with his cousin, purchased Kalmoesfontein farm in Paardeberg, and restored a wine cellar that had been in disuse since the 1930’s.

Today, they produce natural wines here, with a strong focus on terrior and a low-intervention approach in the cellar.
This is the mission statement of The Swartland Revolution, a collective of winemakers including Testalonga, Mullineux, and Adi, one of the founding members. High yields and bulk production are no longer the name of the game - instead, regenerative farming and preservation of the region's old vines take priority. 

Hand harvested from old bushvines, their Secateurs chenin is full of just-ripe golden pear, fresh pineapple and nutmeg.

Pinot Noir, Moya Meaker, Elgin, 2023

Notes of delicately spiced blood orange, red currant and rhubarb.

This is a bright and tangy pinot noir showcasing the cool climate finesse of Elgin, South Africa’s coolest winemaking region. Located about an hour south of Cape Town and surrounded on all sides by mountains, temperatures here very rarely exceed 30c. 

Elgin’s agriculture is dominated by apple growing, but winemakers like Jean Smit at Moya Meaker are producing some of the countries most elegant iterations of pinot in this unusual, high altitude valley.
